This is a really different Hawaiian experience. Doris Duke designed her seaside mansion to highlight Islamic art. There are some artifacts and individual pieces, but the highlight is the tile that is integrated into the wall decor. Much of it goes back several hundred years. Tour guides had good information and mature ended with a little ice cream treat and some cool water. Book while in advance they have very limited space and only a handful of tours each day.

Absolutely amazing! I went into it with fairly low expectations because I'm not a huge art person, but this house blew me away! There is so much history in one space, and to think it was someone's house for half of the year 🤯 I thought the cost was a little high but it includes transportation to and from the Honolulu Museum of Art, admissions to the art museum ($20), a fan ($5 in the gift shop), a small ice cream sandwich, and a box of water. I only wish we had more time to take it all in!

Gorgeous, well-kempt space with am amazing array of art and architecture reflecting Middle Eastern, Eastern and Islamic traditions. Unfortunately, none of it has any signage, so unless someone is there to tell you more about what you’re looking at, it’s really just a bunch of visual pleasure. Entry by advanced reservations only. Not suitable for young children.
